Electronics & Tech Buying Guides
Guides to headphones, DACs, speakers, keyboards, lighting, and home office gear. We explain which specifications matter, how to read them, and what to ask before you buy.
What to Check First
Three things worth checking on any listing in this category before you compare prices.
Specifications That Match Your Use
Impedance, sensitivity, codec support, and connectivity matter more than peak numbers on a spec sheet. We explain how to match them to the gear you already own.
Battery, Repair, and Support
Replaceable batteries, spare parts, firmware updates, and warranty length decide how long a device stays useful.
Comfort and Ergonomics
Clamping force, weight, key feel, and desk height affect daily use. Product pages often skip these, so we tell you what to look for.
How We Write Our Tech Guides
Spec sheets are full of numbers, and many of them are measured in ways that make direct comparison difficult.
Our electronics guides explain what common specifications mean and which ones are likely to matter for your setup. We draw on manufacturer documentation, published standards, and widely available measurement data from the wider audio and hardware community.
We do not operate a test lab. When we mention a figure, such as a distortion rating or a battery life claim, it is the published number, and we explain how that number is usually measured so you can judge it.
Each guide ends with a checklist: compatibility with your devices, power and connection needs, warranty and support, and the return window. Those points prevent most disappointing purchases.

Common Mistakes When Buying Electronics
Comparing Peak Power Figures
Peak wattage numbers are not comparable across brands. Look for continuous (RMS) ratings at a stated load and distortion level.
Assuming Every Device Supports the Same Codec
A headphone may support LDAC or aptX, but your phone or laptop also has to. Check both ends before paying for a codec.
Ignoring Power Supply and Noise
USB-powered DACs and amps can pick up noise from a computer. If you hear hiss or hum, a separate power supply or isolator may help.
Overlooking Battery Replacement
Sealed batteries limit a device’s lifespan. Check whether the maker offers battery service or replacement parts.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q.1Do you measure the products yourselves?
No. We explain published specifications and widely available measurement data, and we tell you how to interpret them. We do not run our own lab tests.
Q.2Are expensive cables worth it?
For most home setups, a well-made cable of the right type and length is enough. Spend first on headphones or speakers, then on a DAC or amp if your setup needs one.
Q.3What should I check before ordering?
Compatibility with your devices, power needs, warranty length, firmware support, and the return window.
